I am not enrolled with Intune. What should I do?

If your device was not purchased from one of our suppliers, you might not automatically be enrolled in Intune. You’ll know whether you are enrolled in Intune when you set up your computer. If you are given the option to set up your device as a personal one, then you will not be enrolled. If this is the case, you’ll have to go the old-school route and enrol in Intune manually. 🤓

It's really important that you set-up your device with Intune by following these steps, because they'll help keep your laptop safe and our data protected. 😊

For more information about what Intune is, check out this page here.

❗️IMPORTANT: What You Need to Know Before You Begin

Manually setting up Intune involves some risk, including the possibility of being locked out or losing documents, settings, and other files. So, please pay close attention! 🧐

Chrome Data

If you haven't done so already, it's a good idea to ensure that you're signed into Chrome with your Google account and that you've enabled Sync. This way, all your bookmarks, history, and saved passwords will be backed up to your Google account.

You can find instructions on how to do this here.

Other Browser Data

If you use browsers like Edge or Firefox, (remember, you should be using Chrome for all work related activities!) it's important to sync your bookmarks and passwords to the cloud. Alternatively, you can export them manually and re-import them at the end of this process. Please note that we don't support other browsers, so we won't be able to assist in recovering data from them if it's lost!

SSI Certificates

If you use SSI, you'll also need a copy of your certificates as these won't be transferred to the new user account.

Step by Step Guide to Setup

In addition to the written instructions provided below, we've also prepared some instructional videos with detailed explanations.

To manually enrol your device with Intune, follow the steps demonstrated in the videos below. You may want to open these videos on your mobile or another computer so you can easily follow along as you complete each step.

Step 1 - Install User Profile Wizard

In this step, you will download and install a program called "Profwiz". This program will help you protect your data during the setup process, so make sure to follow this guide carefully.

  1. Download the User Profile Wizard installer here.

  2. Go to your Downloads folder (C:\Users\[your.username]\Downloads).

  3. Copy the "Profwiz" installer file from your Downloads and paste into C:\Users\Public\Public Downloads.

  4. Double-click the "Profwiz" installer file to run the installer.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install User Profile Wizard.

Step 2 - Join your device to Azure Active Directory

This step will connect your PC to the Octopus Energy organisation, and allow you to sign into Windows using your Okta account.

  1. Open Settings from your Start Menu.

  2. Go to Accounts > Access work or school.

  3. If you see an account for Octopus Energy already, just click on it and choose Disconnect. If you see an account for some other organisation, hold on a sec and reach out to TechOps!

  4. Next to Add a work or school account, click Connect.

  5. DO NOT enter your email in the prompt that appears. Instead, click on Join this device to Microsoft Entra ID (this may also be named Azure Active Directory, which is its old name).

  6. Sign in with your Okta email and password.

  7. Click Join.

Step 3 - Sign in to Windows with Okta

You now need to sign out of your current user account and sign in with your new Okta-linked account.

  1. Sign out of your Windows user account.

  2. On the sign in screen, click on Other Users.

  3. Enter your Okta email and password to sign in.

  4. Wait for the initial setup to finish. IMPORTANT: If the set-up times out, or an error occurs, contact TechOps for assistance. Avoid clicking "Reset Device" as this will lead to the loss of all files on your PC. 😱

  5. Set up Windows Hello with your face, fingerprint or PIN.

  6. Once you’ve done this, you'll end up at the Windows desktop and you'll see the Octopus branded wallpaper. Don't worry if you don't see your files, they’re hidden but still intact! 😶🌫️ Proceed to the next step to retrieve them.

Step 4 - Migrate your old user account data

This new account won't have any of your old documents or settings, so this is where we'll use Profwiz to transfer them over.

  1. Find User Profile Wizard (Profwiz.exe) in the C:\Users\Public\Public Downloads folder and double-click to open it.

  2. Click Next.

  3. Select your old user account from the list (the one that doesn't start with "AzureAD").

  4. Check the Delete Account checkbox.

  5. Make sure Octopus Energy Group is already selected as the domain.

  6. Make sure Azure AD is checked.

  7. Enter your Okta email address in the account name field (It's really important you enter your email address correctly in this field or you'll end up locked out of your device!)

  8. Make sure Set as default logon is checked.

  9. Click Next.

  10. Wait for the migration to finish. 🦅

  11. Click Next again.

  12. Wait for your computer to restart.

Step 5 - Sign in and finish

  1. Sign in to your new user account using your Windows Hello face, fingerprint or PIN.

  2. You'll need to set up Windows Hello once more.

  3. Once you're back at the Windows desktop, you should see the wallpaper of your old user account.

  4. You're now successfully enrolled in Intune! 🥂
