Onboarding Guide Part 1: Logging into Okta
Introduction
Hi there! We're very excited to have you on board with us. We know that starting out can be a little daunting, so we've put together this handy guide to help you along the way. In this document, we'll walk you through setting up your computer step by step.
- Part 1 concerns the Okta activation. Okta is our digital ID at Octopus, the tool that we use to access all the rest, and it's essential that we set it up first thing before proceeding to the rest of the onboarding.
- Part 2 deals with setting up your computer. Keep in mind that will only be able to read part 2 once you're logged into Okta, so make sure that you have completed the steps in this guide before moving forward!
- Part 3 covers our essential company applications and any security matters that you'll need to know before getting to work. Just like for part two, you'll need Okta in order to access it!
The purpose of this guide is to introduce you to the essential tech stuff that everyone here at Octopus will need to know. Being such a large global company, there will of course be more role-specific information for you to learn, depending on your business area, that will supplement this guide. Registration with Hibob
What is Hibob?
Before you get going with the onboarding, make sure you're registered on Hibob (also known as Bob 🧑💼). Our people's team has taken care of this for you, and you should have received your login details in your personal email.
Once you're logged into Hibob, take a moment to confirm that your details are accurate. This step is crucial as these details will be used throughout your journey at Octopus!
With that in check, it's time to get started!
Okta
If you're working remotely, your brand-new laptop might have already arrived, but make sure you set up your Okta account first before opening it.
What is Okta?
Okta is your digital ID whilst working at Octopus. Just like when you see a "Sign in with Facebook/Google" button for your personal accounts, you will see a "Sign in with Okta" button for Octopus Energy applications and systems. This means you don't have to remember lots of passwords for all these other systems, but just the one Okta password.
How to get started with Okta
Getting started with Okta should be pretty simple:
Before your first day you should have received a message from Okta on your personal email. First, download the Okta Verify app onto your phone, and then follow the activation link in the email to get started.
The link will take you to a page to set up your Okta password. We recommend choosing a long passphrase, instead of a shorter, more complex password with numbers and special characters. This will make it much more memorable in the long run!
Follow the steps on your phone to complete your account set-up and identity verification, until you end up in the Okta Verify app that you’ve already downloaded.
After your account has been activated and added to the app on your phone, it’s time to start up your work device.
